Local Studio is an architecture and urban design studio based in Johannesburg South Africa. My task was to design the brand identity for the business.
The owner, Thomas Chapman, explained that the name was “a tongue in cheek reference to ‘global studio’” which is a big international architecture networking and outreach organisation, but that the meaning now supports Local Studio’s contextual approach to design. This concept was illustrated by a sharp arrow/ flag which formed half of the logo, with the word “studio” pointing back to “local”. The colour red was chosen as the brand’s primary colour due to it’s confident and demanding nature.
